Child Abuse Reporting
To report suspected child abuse, please contact both Child Protective Services (CPS) AND Law Enforcement. They will assess the information you provide to determine the severity of the case and whether it will be a joint investigation by both agencies.
Please provide as much of the following information as possible:
- Name, birthdate, and address of child.
- Name, address, and phone number of the child’s parent or guardian.
- The nature and extent of the abuse or neglect.
- Any evidence of previous incidents.
- Identity of the perpetrator
- Any other information which may be helpful to establish the cause of the child’s abuse or neglect.
You do not need to have all of the above information when you call to make a report, but the more accurate information you can provide, the better equipped the offices will be to assess the child’s safety.
Child Protective Services
Child Protective Services is a state agency that investigates reports of child abuse and neglect. Child safety is the first concern of Child Protective Services. They will work with both parents to safely care for their child. CPS can also go to court to remove a child from the parents' care if necessary to protect the child.
